Every year the American Stroke Association chooses Stroke Heroes, people who are committed to stroke education and awareness in different categories. Additionally they choose 12 finalists for the Voters’ Choice award.
This year I am so honored to be one of those finalists! Since Trent’s first stroke, we entered this new world that I had never given any thought to before. As the years have gone by, I have learned so much about strokes, how prevalent they are, and how the general public is not prepared to prevent or identify them. Additionally as a caregiver, I have experienced first hand the emotional, social, medical and physical challenges that come with caring for a beloved survivor. I’ve learned so much and I want to share that with other caregivers to hopefully ease their journey.
Ultimately, in being a Voters’ Choice finalist, my goal is to bring more visibility to Stroke Awareness Vermont, the organization that my daughter and I created in 2023. On this website, we have stories from survivors and caregivers, numerous resources, and various other information that we are always adding to.
I’ve learned that there are resources out there to help, but often people who are in the midst of a medical crisis don’t have time or energy to look for them. That’s why I am so proud of our website and hope our organization can become a prominent support for stroke survivors and caregivers in Vermont and beyond.
If you’d like to vote for me, I would be very grateful. You can vote once per day per email address. Here is the direct link.
Thank you so much for your support, and please share with anyone that might be interested in voting and bringing more awareness to stroke survivors and caregivers.
